I've asked about getting them to work! Me and Denmark wanted to watch Old Yeller once but they wouldn't play anything, and the theater down town is all wrecked so even if they did give us movies, it'd be a long time before it'd be up and running. But I guess we could like, project it against a wall or something. I'd make my own movies here but it's murder to get special effects and a cast and filming crew, even though I did promise Denmark I'd make a Beowulf movie...

[ America leans back, cocking his head while he listens. Good thing he ate; that always puts him in a better mood.

He looks to be thinking for a moment, and then he looks Tatsumi straight in the eye and calmly asks the obvious: ]

[ NOT THAT THE SOCIOPATH WILL GIVE HIM A STRAIGHT ANSWER but, in all honesty, even if the answer was "yes", America's response wouldn't be to immediately send him to the gallows. After all, how many people has America himself killed? It's the reasoning behind it that matters most to him.

[Tatsumi stares right back. Its a cold stare. It's a deep stare. The kind of stare that you know there is more but it's a bit scary and unwelcoming.]

I've killed people to live. It happens to all shiki, specially when they can't control themselves. The initial hunger is so strong, it makes you do things you never would have as a human.

But it's been a long time since I've ever been that way. I'm lucky, considering I don't have to feed as often as most others. Not that it makes the cravings any less.

What is it like for you and other nations?

[ America nods along, not happy with it, but. Sometimes he puts thing in perspective. He's fallen in love with outlaws, run with crooks, bombed and shot and slaughtered. It's a rationalization for himself, mostly- why he isn't reacting with revulsion. ]

I kinda figured that. I mean, I didn't want to figure that you've killed people, but I'm not all that surprised. And for some reason I get it. Kinda. Maybe.

[ He shrugs again, surprisingly relaxed as he explains. ]

Denmark was a viking. I was around when France was cutting off his own peoples' heads. Japan has a habit of ritualistic suicide. War's expected. Killing isn't exactly new to any of us.

[ Pause. He brings his knee up, rolls up the leg. An ugly scar traces across the knee. It looks a little like a ravine that had been split open. ]

And sometimes we kill without justification. We think it's right at the time, then years go by, or even minutes, and we realize how wrong we were. Killing just seems to be a fact of life for us. At least you were feeding and trying to survive. I was just land-hungry.

We all learn through mistakes. Nations and Shiki are no different.

It's a little like that with Shiki, though. At the time, it's a good idea, because you're hungry but afterwords you ask yourself why. Only way to rationalize it and survive is to figure humans just a part of the food chain like any other animal.

I don't need to kill people here, though. I have you to feed from, though before I met ya I had to bite some people. One actually accepted the fact I'm a vampire and isn't mad at me, like you. It's strange but cool.

I wouldn't really know, since I have kinda special relationship with humans, since I'm... theirs. Or whatever. I mean, once they realize what I am, anyway. It was pretty rough back in the days where people thought my super strength made me a witch or a demon or something. I like it better when I'm mistaken for an angel.

That happy little hair-tail and rambling is enough to assure that this attack was hostile and Tatsumi laughs. He ignores most the incoherent hippy shit and draws it to a close with a kiss to the Nation's lips.
